Paragon Tinker Tailor Series Cup & Saucer by Louis Wain
Stock No. 409
All
Louis Wain
ceramics are scarce but some designs like these on this Paragon duo from the
Tinker Tailor Series
introduced in 1918 are extremely scarce.
The duo has transfer printed Louis Wain designs on porcelain and then were hand decorated in coloured enamels. The cup has an illustration of a mother cat giving her sailor son a farewell present of a scarf bearing the caption
"His Mother's Present"
and with further illustrations of sailing ships to the side and back.
The saucer bears the illustration of "Jack" - a sailor cat dancing the hornpipe on a ship's deck and with the caption
"Jack at Sea"
.(This last design is extraordinarily scarce).
Condition is excellent, with little or no wear and with no damage or restoration.
Both cup and saucer marked to base with the Paragon Star mark and "PARAGON CHINA ENGLAND Tinker Tailor Series".The cup also marked to base with "6069" (This number also found on other designs in the Tinker Tailor Series.)
Dimensions:
cup height : 2.5 inches
saucer diameter : 5.25 inches
(
Note: the saucer's design is so rare that it is not found in Gifts for Good Children by Maureen Batkin Part 2. pgs.7, 8, 14, 119 & 120. The design on the cup is listed on page 120 and illustrated on page 14)
