Silver Lady Teapot

Stock No. 484

Originally named Erotic Lady Teapot, this Silver Lady Teapot was designed by Roger Michell in 1976 and initially produced in a small edition by his studio pottery - Lustre Pottery, before allowing Carlton Ware to produce their own edition. The plain earthenware pot is glazed and surmounted by a naked lady. She is entirely decorated with a platinum lustre, her arms stretching backwards either side of the spout. Her legs forming the handle of the teapot and the upper section of her torso surmounts the lid.
This attractive design looks back to the Art Deco period.
Condition is excellent.
This rare example has a black body, (unlike the majority of either Lustre's or Carlton Ware's editions of this tea pot which had white bodies) and as it is unmarked to the base, is probably a Lustre Pottery pre - edition prototype. (Both Lustre Pottery and Carlton Ware main edition examples were marked to the bases with their respective backstamps.)
